As per the historical documents available since 1240, trade fairs were being held successively in Frankfurt; since then due to high volume of monetary transactions, the banking industry was brought into more attention in this city. In 1585 Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FSE) was set up accordingly, resulting in transforming Frankfurt into a dominant financial center in Europe.

Frankfurt Trade Fair was founded in 1907 and two years later, the first exhibition hall was opened at the actual nowadays “Festhalle”. The hall is located at the entrance of the Frankfurt fair district and is a popular venue for the exhibition galas.

In 1980, Frankfurt Trade Fair evolved into the current “Messe Frankfurt GmbH”; with 60 percent of the shares belonging to the City of Frankfurt and the State of Hessen with 40 percent. At 578,000 square meters, Messe Frankfurt currently has ten exhibition halls, a conference center, and a ceremony hall all equipped with superior state-of-the-art facilities, making it one the most modern trade fair centers in the world.
